TAKE MAHOMES, COUNTRY ROAD 22 VS. BAKER OF CHAINS 21
As the start of the new decade rolls out, we have two new teams this season TAKE MAHOMES, COUNTRY ROAD VS. BAKER OF CHAINS looking to square off the first game of the season opener.
The first half of the game was like the previous Superbowl, both teams went scoreless! CHAINS and COUNTRY ROAD managed to play good offense all the way until it was yards away from the touchdown, until the opposing team would intercept the ball. Both teams struggled to score early on.
BAKER OF CHAINS CURTIS MCGRIFF, wasted no time on the field to get the ball rolling off an amazing interception midfield taking it to the endzone. It was on! TAKE MAHOMES, COUNTRY ROAD fired back offensively as FRANKIE WELTZ put on the skates this Sunday as he remarkably pushed the ball advancing at all cost offensively every chance he got. Early second half, CURTIS MCGRIFF launched a Tom Brady like throw for a full field touchdown to SPENSER LINNEY who did not shy away from competition given his touchdown dance at the goal line.
The score was in favor of BAKER OF CHAINS 21-14 with less than 3 minutes to go. The great JAKE BOGGS was locked in for the final minutes of the game as he combined for a total of 3 interceptions, shutting the offense down and helped contributed the last touchdown of the game with a score of 20-21 with 20 seconds left in the game. Captain chose the two-point play for the win. BERNIE GUZMAN before the play starts looked over to BECKY PECK and gave her the nod, and that’s all she needed to see. The play started and BECKY PECK caught the game winning play to bring a box score to 22-21.

BOO’S BABY BOYZ 31 VS. KOBE SYSTEM 26
It was cold, it was windy, and the sky was begging to drop more than the mist of ice cold drops on to the field. Despite all that miserable weather however, both teams seemed to have fire in their eyes, ready to start the season off on the right track.
BOOS BABY BOYZ, led by QB and defensive coordinator BOO FISHER, received the ball to start the first half but stumbled out the gate. A couple early penalties and incomplete passes lead to an early 3 and out giving KOBE SYSTEM the early victory on the defensive front. Thankfully BOO's BABY BOYZ were able to return the favor and return a 4th down punt to midfield.
These evenly matched teams went back and forth like heavy weight contenders trading touchdown for touchdown in the opening minutes with KOBE SYSTEM trailing at the halftime 13-24.But like lighting in the bottle two quick touchdowns to open the second by KOBE SYSTEM brought them right back in it with a score of 26-24 with 9 minutes left in the game. JASON WITT was buckets all day long, finding the end zone 3 times.
This didn’t sit well with BRETT COMFORT & CHRISTIAN HUNTER who went full NO FLY ZONE on defense knocking down passes and getting an interception a piece in the 2nd half. These turnovers lead to a game winning touchdown catch by CHRISTINA HORNY to win the game right before the game expired. The final score at the end of regulation was BOO's 31 - KOBE 26.

AFTERMATH 38 VS. REMEMBER THE TIGHT ENDS 30
We have two teams AFTERMATH vs. REMEMBER THE TIGHT ENDS in this epic high scoring game.
AFTERMATH QB CODY LUERRA came out in a blazing hot start who combined for a total of 5 touchdown passes, while most of the touchdown catches came from CLAIRE SEVERSON who had an impressive 4 touchdown stat rating, making it look easy, combining for a total of four 8 point plays who surely took this game by the horns as she cut through defenders, catching the big throws from her fellow QB.
REMEMBER THE TIGHT ENDS was not going down without a fight, as the defense struggled the offense was still putting up numbers by QB NATALIE TREISTER & DYLAN HANEL who combined for 2 touchdowns each keeping the game within reach. KYLE BEERMAN tried his best stopping the offense with 3 interceptions in the game but ended up falling short with a box score 38-30.

SQUAWW 54 VS. IS SIMS PLAYING THIS WEEK? 24
The second game of the afternoon was a lot closer than the scoreboard may show. SQUAWW, a team full of flag football veterans and speedsters, was the favorite against the rambunctious and rowdy collection of 1st time and returning players playing for IS SIMS PLAYING THIS WEEK?
The game opened with two early picks by SQUAW's defense by MYSHAUNA ALEXANDER and BREANA JACKSON which lead to two quick scores putting their team up 16 - 0 with 12 minutes left in the first half. Frustrated by miscues, GRANT ARONSON and company came out firing on offense and found his groove connecting on two scores of his own, once to GIOVANNI NABORS and once to POPPA RAINMAKER, bringing the game back into contention 16 - 12. Though they found their rhythm on offense, their defense was what was truly their biggest Achilles heel. Squaww went on to score two more touchdowns before half making it 30 - 12, a seemingly insurmountable lead.
But don’t tell that to GIOVANNI NABORS who decided it was his back he would put the team on, picking off SEAN HUTCHINSON of SQUAWW and being the catalyst for his SIMS team. Realizing that in order for their team to win IS SIMS PLAYING THIS WEEK would need to outscore their opponent they decided it was time to go for the long ball early and often. The peak of this offensive explosion left IS THIS SIMs within one score after a corner endzone touchdown dart to RAQUEL SCOTT. But once it was 30 - 24 COREY CHAN and SQUAWW decided enough was enough. His team came up with a late touchdown with 3 minutes left to create breathing room, then put the nail in the coffin when JAKE HEINRICH threw a pick 6 in his own side of the field blowing the game out of reach for his team with time winding down. By the time the clock hit triple zero, the score of the game was IS SIMS PLAYING THIS WEEK? 24and SQAUW 54 winning the game late with heroics and heart.

TIK MY TOK 18 VS. HAIL MARY MOB 7
Both teams gave their best defensive effort on the field in the season opener as we had TIK MY TOK facing off against HAIL MARY MOB.
QB IAN STARR got the ball rolling for the first TD for TIK MY TOK to receiver ALI HABIB who broke through the defense with ease. The one-point play was intercepted by HAIL MARY MOB NATANGO HOHENSTEIN as he managed to break free from defense for a full fledge sprint bringing it on home. MARY MOB struggled a bit offensively as they were working on team chemistry.
ALI HABIB & DAVID HUDA were the last scorers on TIK MY TOK to break through the tie leaving with a W for a box score of 18-7.

EAT MY PASS 32 VS. LA TRANSPLANTS 30
In what would be known on field two that day as the game of the day, EAT MY PASS and LA TRANSPLANTS had fans biting their nails up until the last 4 seconds of the game. Both teams came out on their opening possessions with scripted plays, dynamic route running, and trick plays out the wazoo. With two touchdowns a piece at halftime for both teams, it became overwhelmingly clear that it would come down to who which teams QB would have the ball in his hands last to make a score.
We saw SAMANTHA BONCICH catch a 30-yard laser for a score on EAT MY PASS followed quickly by a 20 yard out and up by LINDSEY LOVIER and diving catch TD grab by WESLY BOUDREAUX for team LA TRANSPLANTS. The score at halftime was tied 24 a piece, both teams seemed to be evenly matched and dying to find a way to make a stop.
With 2 minutes left on the clock, NICK FOYE and JONAH SANCHEZ willed their team on and lead them down the field on an impressive 7 play 50-yard drive. The drive ate up a ton of clock and you could tell that EAT MY PASS was worried if LA TRANSPLANTS would leave them enough time if they in fact scored. Burning their last timeout EAT MY PASS had a goal line stand on defense looking like their only way they were ever going to make it out of this game with a W. But like a match in the wind the hope in the eyes of EAT MY PASS was for that moment extinguished as JONAH SANCHEZ of LA TRANSPLANTS caught a 5-yard dig, they would miss the extra point making the score of the game 30-24.
With 35 seconds, no timeouts and the fate of the game on KYLE ELLIS' shoulders, cool calm and collected he seemed, completing 3 passes in a row to his favorite receiver P STEVENS, this was made possible only because of the prevent defense LA was playing. LA TRANSPLANTS that Sunday afternoon played the perfect game, however in almost AARON RODGERS type fashion, with only 4 seconds left on the clock the last play was hiked. KYLE felt the pressure from the rush, scrambled to his left, then back to his right, slipping and nearly falling over before throwing the wobbly back endzone game changer of a TD to P STEVENS tying the game. They would later go on to score the extra 2-point conversion winning the game and giving EAT MY PASS the 1 - 0 season record.

FOX HILLS RUNNING CLUB 36 VS. THE NERD HERD 22
It’s always nice when teams have an opportunity to play season after season together to build chemistry and an identity. FOX HILLS RUNNING CLUB is exactly that as they are now entering their 3rd season with the same talented collective.
NERD HERD despite being new to the league seemed to have the confidence of veterans as they played with poise and relied heavily on their in-game tactics to keep the game within reach.
The two headed QB attack of FOX HILLS was led by J CASTRO, serving as primary ball handler and SHANNON YAHN coming in for big down field bombs and female only plays. This dynamic duo fell behind to BRIAN HEITZER's NERD HERD early though, as touchdown passes to JULIANNE PATTERSON and JOSH MUNOZ seemed to stun FOX HILLS early in the 1st half. This must have lit the fire under FOX HILLS as they would go on a 36 to 6 run in the second half to completely stun both NERD HERD and the crowd with bomb after bomb to STEFAN DJORDEVIC, SHANE GRIMES and CHRISTIAN HALL. The NERD HERD though extremely out matched in the 2nd half is my sleeper pick for this season with plenty of talent to take them to the top this year if they can get their defense in shape.

HOWZIT BRADDAH 36 VS. SECOND TIME AROUND 35
SECOND TIME AROUND won the chip during the fall season even though it was their first time playing in our league. So yea… they’re pretty, pretty good. During the offseason, it was rumored that NIK BHAGAT was at Venice Muscle Beach scouting for teammates. Don’t let the casual team name, HOWZIT BRADDAH, fool you, because their team name should be more like DO YOU EVEN LIFT BRADDAH? While they look intimidating, they’re actually really nice people… they swear. No, but seriously they’re really nice.
It’s always great when the game lives up to the billing. You could hear “oohs” reverberating through the field as spectators marveled at a close, intense game. BRADDAH spread the love with 5 receivers amassing 6 TD’s but BRADDAH was always able to answer. The staff could be seen muttering, “damn, she’s fast” and sometimes forgot to be refs and would catch themselves just enjoying the game.

STRIAGHT OUTTA SHAPE 36 VS. LA TRANSPLANTS 20
With the unlucky fate of being the team in the league to draw a double header on its first game of the season, LA TRANSPLANTS handled it with grace and confidence telling the other team at captains meetings that they are more than ready to start game two and redeem themselves with a W. With all the same energy as last game, this time tainted with a bit of revenge, NICK FOYE as QB was dicing up the STRAIGHT OUTTA SHAPE defense like the game was in slow motion. Completing two early touchdowns to WESLY BOURDREAUX his team and him were off to a promising start as the offensive momentum was keeping the team going.
STRIAGHT OUTTA SHAPE wasted no time as MARTIN ROMERO stepped up to the plate and was throwing dimes left and right finishing the game with an impressive 3 touchdown pass/ 1 interception / 1 midfield touchdown. ROMERO was in full effect as he helped pull the team into victory as STEPHANIE RIOCCI finished the game with an 8 point play bringing the box score to 36-20.
